Makaya Revell, President

Makaya Revell was born in 1986 in Democratic Republic of Congo. His parents were professionals, and he and his four younger brothers grew up in relative comfort in a country where the danger of violence and death was an everyday reality. He was just 11 years old when the current civil war began, and when he turned 16 the conflict touched his own family and he fled to the United States to seek asylum. His father and youngest brother died at that time, and his mother died when he was 18, adding him and his remaining brothers to the exploding numbers of orphans of the Democratic Republic of Congo.  (view Bio page)

Douglas MacKenzie, Vice President
Douglas MacKenzie received his degree in Business Administration at Roanoke College. For 23 years Mr. MacKenzie has served as Vice President for Business Development at Total Asphalt. He is a member of the Board of Directors and a financial advisor for the Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation.

Mr. MacKenzie is a mentor and respected member of his community and an accomplished individual. As a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Mr. MacKenzie also works hard to develop the capacities of others.

As a human rights activist, Mr. MacKenzie has assisted many orphans in the continent of Africa, Congo DRC in particular. He argues that Congo is potentially one of the richest countries on earth, but the history of slavery, colonialism, proxy wars, and corruption have turned it into one of the poorest countries on the earth. The resilience of the Congolese people is keeping the country from falling apart.

Mr. MacKenzie helped to stabilize the financial committee of the Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of orphaned children have received assistance during Mr. MacKenzie’s leadership in the past several years.

 Elizabeth S. Revell, Ph.D., Secretary/Treasurer

Dr. Elizabeth Revell is a licensed psychologist with over forty years of professional experience working with adults and adolescents, couples, and families. She has worked in universities, psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes, and in juvenile corrections. She has had a private psychotherapy practice for more than thirty years, including private supervision of other mental health professionals. Her particular interest is in working with survivors of trauma.

Dr. Revell has also spent thirty-five years teaching at the graduate level and providing continuing education and training for human service professionals. She has been a frequent presenter at conferences in the United States and internationally. She is former Co-Editor of Gestalt Review, refereed journal of Gestalt Therapy.

She also has a record of volunteer experience including providing psychotherapy pro bono to refugees and asylum seekers through Friendship House and Golden Vision Foundation.

She served as a Board Member for Achievement House Cyber Charter School, Bryn Mawr, PA, and for four years she served on the board of the Animal Rights Network. Dr. Revell is recipient of a Community Service Award from the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in York, PA. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer of Marie Mambu Makaya Foundation since its inception.

Dori Middleman, MD, Board Member

Dr. Middleman is a Board-certified Child and Adult Psychiatrist with 25 years of experience working with community agencies serving children and adults in Newark, New Jersey, and in Philadelphia and York, Pennsylvania, as well as in her private practice in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Dr. Middleman is a faculty member of the Pennsylvania Gestalt Center, where she co-leads workshops to help people recover from trauma. She and her colleagues also train people from varied backgrounds to facilitate groups and bring love and support to their own communities and the world at large. Dr. Middleman met Makaya early in his days in the United States and and is inspired by his courage and plan to create a home for the orphans in the Congo, of which he is one. She strongly believes that all the children of the world are our children.

Kobie MacKenzie, Board Member

For more than 29 years Mrs. Kobie Mackenzie has dedicated herself to serving others and her community. She currently holds an administrative position in the city of York PA. Her experience includes: diversified business support, working with charities, fundraising, community training, and support of orphans of war in Africa, particularly Congo DRC. Giving back to her community and helping those in need are among her greatest strengths.

Ms. MacKenzie is a mother of four daughters and has 11 grandchildren. She believes that a strong family makes our society even stronger. She is an overcomer and enjoys sharing her experience strength with those who are looking for direction in their lives, giving them hope that they too can overcome.

She is known by her infectious laugh, and it is said that the same laughter attracted her wonderful husband Doug.
